Residential Garages

A walled, roofed structure for storing a vehicle(s). It may be part of or attached to your home or could be a separate outbuilding. A residential garage will generally have room for 1-2 cars, although they can come larger.

If your garage is attached to your house, then it will typically have an entry door into the house called the person door or Man door. This is different to the wider, taller door for vehicles called the garage door. A garage is designed to protect your vehicle from weather, and a good level of security will also protect your vehicle from theft or vandalism. Many garages are multifunctional and often serve as workshops and storage. Some will also double as man caves.

Some garages will have an electrical mechanism to automatically open and close the garage door when the homeowner uses a remote control.
